Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, etc.

January 9, 2009

I finally finished Alices Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. Just thought I should let you know. Ha.

At first I was quite in love, but I’m of the opinion now that you should never try to read both books at once, if you’re not a child. For awhile, the innocence and fantasy of it all is refreshing. It’s worth a smile and a giggle here and there, and it’s definitely a nice break from more serious adult reading, if you’re into the serious adult reading. But there’s not really one cohesive story. It’s a bunch of nonsense. Of course, that’s the point, but by the time you get to the end of the second book, the novelty has worn off and you’re tired of thinking like a child because you’re not one and it’s just very hard to convince yourself to finish.

That’s pretty much the reason I still haven’t made it all the way through Peter Pan either, although I’ve been digging into that one here and there lately too.

Really, I love children’s books, and Alice is a classic, there’s no disputing that. It was charming and imaginative. It was just slightly too much.
