Falling Asleep Alone

May 21, 2009

The girl who was laying in my bed last night with Lori McKenna singing her to sleep was a little lonely.

She’s been a little lonely quite a bit lately– not in a homesick way or her friends are all busy and she’s bored kind of way, not at all.  Life has been good, especially this month, with visits from the family and songwriting sessions and reconnecting with old friends and more planned reunions to come.

No, lonliness is creeping up on her in the way of anticipation of something she acts quite sure of but is still feeling insecure about.
It’s there because even if the insecurity isn’t, the distance is.

It’s there and it’s making it so hard to fall asleep at night, because all she wants to know is that she won’t have to fall asleep alone forever.

And more than that, she wants to know she might get to fall asleep next to you.
Soon.

Loved this. I know I’ve definitely felt like that before.
