What You Deserve

July 27, 2009

Are you a jealous person?

I’m not really.  I mean, I definitely try not to let jealousy get the best of me.  But none of us are immune to seeing something from the outside and imagining how much fun and peace and contentment or excitement or glamor is associated with it.  How perfect it must be to be the person in that situation.

It’s never perfect.  Have you ever noticed that?

Even a perfect moment is preceeded and followed by a billion moments of imperfect life.  We all find our little pieces of glitter and we let them shine in the sun while they will, but the real beauty is in trucking through the rest of the imperfection so we really appreciate those sparkling moments.

Sparkling moments come to each of us in our own time and it’s easy to listen to a friend’s stories of her magical weekend or watch another friend go to a job he absolutely loves every morning and think, “Why can’t I have that?”

But, um, WE CAN.

We’re all capable of the things we want– we just have to DESERVE them.  If you want to take a four day road trip once a month then you’d better be working and budgeting and figuring out how to make it fit into your life because nobody is just going to hand you the means to live frivolously.  If you want a job you absolutely love, then go out and educate yourself and apply for job after job after job or start your own business and work hard to keep it going.  We all have what we deserve, and the more work we do for the things we want, the more we’ll have.

And I’m not just talking about material possessions–  I’m talking about relationships, health, happiness in general.

If you see something you don’t like, change it.
If you see something you want, work for it.

Easy.

What do you want and what are you working for?

Such simple truth here, Courtney! I’m working towards things right now I’ve wanted my WHOLE LIFE and it’s so exciting to see hard work pay off. It sounds like your hard work is paying off also, and I’m so excited to see that! Keep working as hard and as passionately as you have been and you’ll have the world wrapped around your finger in NO TIME.

Seriously, Courtney? You are a gem. This is completely and entirely what I needed to read this morning. It’s been one of those months where there are a million little thoughts and insecurities and such floating around in my head. It’s wonderful to read these words you wrote and realize that we can all apply them to our own lives – no matter what it is we’re going through.

I agree – it’s really all in our hands to make these things happen. Or, at the very least, to have the bravery to go out there and try.

Thank you for writing this! Have I mentioned how much I love you?

    :)
